Baby Boxes

My dear friend, Lori made one of these for Callen as a baby gift. I pretty much think it's genius! So I went and got all the stuff {a portable file box and hanging file folders} and made one for Trevor and Bailey. Their stuff is scattered between random bins and containers and my file cabinet. Now it can all be in one spot and eventually when they leave home I can just give it all to them in one box. {way to think ahead, right?!}

Then I just took an 8x11.5 shipping label and printed their names on them and cut them out and stuck 'em on... for a little added cuteness and to easily identify who's box is who's.

That's it! Voila! Thanks, Lori & Lydia! I LOVE how easy it is to keep track of their documents and things! I am actually excited to find everything and have them organized!

*****UPDATE****

I have been asked to provide the label names, and I've been lazy, and I'm sorry! But here they are, from front to back, in order:

BINS!

I have been asked a lot what size file bin I used, These are the ones I purchased from Staples.  http://www.staples.com/Staples-Large-Capacity-Hanging-File-Tote-139938-/product_634514

Though if I'm being totally honest. I would get a smaller one in hindsight. I have 4 children now and I keep less papers and stuff from school because it's just TOO much. They are are to store with four of them. So it depends on how much you plan to hold on too and how much room you have to store the bins. I hope this helps!

  3. For the boys it went: Church, Scouts, Young Men. I had to modify it for bailey... that's hers you see above. If you have any questions for the order let me know. I love it because you can add more file folders inside the hanging ones and keep it organized and tidy or you can just drop crap in the hanging ones and call it done!

  21. This might be a silly question but do you keep the boxes in the kids room or out somewhere that they are easy to find when you need to file something. It is such a good idea - I just feel that I would be running to get the box everyday to file something unless it was right out in my kitchen.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Candace, I haven't forgotten about you.. I will get on it.

Kris- I don't remember- maybe Garamond or Times New Roman. I'll look and let you know for sure. For what it's worth, my kids have peeled the stickers half off.

It's not a silly question... I'm lazy... and don't file as much as I should. I make piles and eventually sort and put them away. I was keeping them all in my craft/play room, but right now they are out in my living room... because I have nowhere else to put them. When we finally get moved into a new home of our own, I plan on keeping them in my craft room/office.

I probably shouldn't admit this, but I've thought about just doing binders, filed similarly... except then you can't fit bigger art projects in them... so I didn't do it.

    1. Hm. That's a good point. My oldest is only 6, so we haven't gotten to the odd shaped projects yet. Maybe push the file folders forward and store them in the back of the bin?

      Delete
    2. Susanne... it would be hard to keep all the odd shape items. I take a picture of them (or have my daughter hold it and take a picture with her and the item) and add that to my albums. You could make a file for pictures and just add in a picture of the oversized stuff. There is only so much stuff we CAN keep and I have noticed that I have gotten rid of some of the things my mom kept that I did when I was young. I would have just liked a picture of it ;-)

  30. Great idea..however.... I don't know why some people think it's the current or "cool" thing to do ....not capitalize words that should be. You are doing your children a disservice to see their names not capitalized.
It's a bad habit that will carry over in their writing in school!! I teach elementary so I see this all the time!!!
    SOME WORDS MUST BE CAPITALIZED!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I didn't do it because it was "cool". I did it because I liked the uniform look of it. I actually teetered back and forth, when making the decision. I am doing my children no disservice, though. I only have one that can even read or identify lowercase letters. They are 6,3,2,1. The stickers have been mostly torn off for about two years now, so rest assured that it's not an issue, thank you for your concern, though.

Also, another idea I saw on pinterest for those of us finding it difficult to determine what artwork to keep and what to toss is to take pictures of the works of art & then use snapfish/shutterfly (or something similar) to create books. 54. You might want to include jobs (if your child works in High School), awards, and achievements. We started a file for that in high school, and it was critical for keeping track of everything they needed for job and college applications and resumes. Obviously, you don't need to start this part for an infant, but if you're planning ahead, it's helpful for the future. And if you are including medical information, it's good to have, along with your immunizations, a quick "cheat sheet" for all those things you (or they) will get asked at the doctor's - allergies, blood type, broken bones, surgeries, severe illnesses, etc., that you can grab if you know you're heading to the doctor (just remember to keep it updated when new things are added).

    1. Okay, so this is the one thing... I hate about these boxes. I put them in a closet. because I had no where else to store them. They are still in a closet, but I put them across the bottom of the floor. Two on one side and two on the other. That way they aren't stacked and are easily reachable. They are in my guest/craft/store everything room. One of the open sides is up front for each of them.

I never thought I'd be writing this message but after 4.5 years of and nearly lost my marriage due to not be able to have a child, severe endometriosis and scanning, I was told that IVF was the only option. This was something we could not afford and had almost given up hope of becoming parents. A friend of mine recommended Priest Babaka to me and persuaded me to contact him, he did a spiritual breakthrough for me to make me get pregnant, within 3 weeks I was pregnant (naturally!!!) and gave birth to our son in April. I am writing this message for those women who are at the stage I was at.depressed with no light at the end of the tunnel. give Priest Babaka a try to help you solve your problem, and hopefully you'll have the same success that I have had. 71. I felt like ending it i lost my husband to another woman 2 weeks ago after 27 years of marriage. We had a lovely marriage but he started a relationship with a co worker who chased after him. He is living away near his work, and he refuses to talk to me or to come home . I am devastated and am finding it hard to cope i was emotionally down . I wish I did not love him and that I could move on but I can't . I don't know how to stop feeling like this I wish I could and its eating me away and I'm starting to feel ill. I have degraded myself begging him to come home all to no avail. I became very worried and needed help. As I was browsing through the internet one day, I came across a website that suggested that Dr Ogudugu can help solve marital problems, restore broken relationships and I also came across several testimonies about this particular man so on. So, I felt I should give him a try. I contacted him and he did a spell for me. 24 hours later, my husband came to me and apologized for the wrongs he did and promise never to do it again. Ever since then, everything has returned back to normal. I and my family are living together happily again.. All thanks to Dr Ogudugu . If you need a spell caster that can cast a spell that truly works, I suggest you contact him. He will not disappoint you. if you have any problem contact him, I give you 100% guarantee that he will help you, This is his details, E-mail: GREATOGUDUGU@GMAIL.COM. Thank you all for reading.
